http://www.krystal-yang.com/marketing/cross-cultural-marketing-success-and-failure-kpop-vs-jrock/

The Kpop market has been extremely succesful for many years due to their clever cross-cultural marketing strategies they are able to get extend their success overseas to the american music market.
Social media marketing is used in all ways possible. The groups of singers usually each have instagrams and twitters as well as the youtube page for their music videos. These singers have social media management teams that help them update their status on each site constantly that are usually in english because they want to make sure american fans can read it.
Kpop has also been spreading to the US  through a comcast channel from a Korean media company called Mnet. The channel is in english but it shows Korean dramas and music videos and videos about Korea. This is the perfect way to promote Korean culture and spread to a wider audience. Mnet is also made available on youtube for people that don't have Comcast can still view the videos. They also interview the singers so the fans are able to watch and more people can learn about new Korean artists. This is a great way to spread their culture to new places. Anyone is able to view these videos on Youtube. Youtube is the best website for spreading the popularity of Korean artists.
Korean companies have been trying to make it big in the US for years. Their first breakthrough into the American music market was with Gangnam Style by Psy. The music video was uploaded on YouTube and allowed people to share it easily so it got to

Recently artists like G-dragon and CL from girl group 2NE1 are becomig popular in the US. Each have collaborated with artist like Missy Elliot and Skrilled to become more well known in the US.

KKBOX:Taiwan-Based Streaming Music Service

KKBOX is a streaming music service based in Taiwan that offers streaming music services in six Asian markets: Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. They currently have 500 international and local music labels that allow it to stream over 10 million tracks.
Users pay $4.50 each month to access the extensive music library on their computors and mobile devices.
"In addition to its streaming music services, KKBOX also publishes a montly print magazine about music and holds an annual music awards show in Taiwan."
The magazine is a great way to promote the artists on their streaming site. They include many interviews on their magazine so people can read about new, popular artists and see what they are like.
"KKBOX previously told TechCrunch that its competitive advantage against Western competitors like Spotify is its ability to strike deals with local music labels, which take a 70 percent to 85 percent market share over Western labels, as well as localized features like rolling karaoke-style lyrics and in-app chats and events with artists."
They are confident that they will continue to be more popular than competing music streaming service, Spotify, because they know more about asian music listeners and their cultures, as well as their knowledge of asian business models.
KKBOX is currently the largest digital music
service in China and is continuing to grow at a steady pace. They are hoping to explore new markets such as Austrailia and the US in the future as they gain popularity.

This music streaming service is great way to promote local artists in Asia, not only through streaming but also through print with their official magazine. This way more people can become exposed do different artists and styles of music that they can listen to on the site. This site helps local artists gain a larger audience and become well known. The magazine is a great idea because music lovers can read about their favorite artists on the magazine as well as stream music online.

Marketing with Stromae

Belgian, Rwandan singer Paul Van Haver, otherwise known as Stromae, has gained a lot of popularity throughout Europe and is becoming increasingly well known in the U.S. He has collaborated with popular artists like Kanye West, Will.i.am, and Angel Haze which have helped him gain exposure.  His music, filled with a Euro-dance sound has transcended language barriers with its powerful beat.
Some may wonder, why has Stromae gained such widespread popularity? His strong visual and creative voice are eminent in his videos and photos which help appeal to larger audiences. His youtube videos have an original style combined with unusual dance moves that linger in people's minds.

With his powerful creative voice, Stromae has created a clothing line called Mosaert that sells items like cardigans, socks, and polos with his signature style and isometric design. He promotes his clothing by wearing them in music videos like Papaoutai and Tous Le Mêmes, as well as wearing them when he performs live.

His internet presence on twitter allows him to promote his album, music videos and tours and also helps to keep fans updated.

In the last 12 months, Stromae has appeared on the covers of numerous magazines, from the French cultural bibles Télérama and Inrockuptibles to Elle. Stromae's physique is part of his appeal and a small army of image advisers is working hard on it.

Music distribution in India

Music Distribution in India

The article I found deals with the distribution of music in India. It is harder to distribute music in India than it is in the U.S. "If you are in India and not really sure about publishing your music on platforms like iTunes or OVI (Nokia Music), the number of times you bang your head on the wall will be more than the number of concerts you do.  "The reason for this is that an artist can't sell their music to any of the famous online retailers until they become partners. If the artist does decide to work with them to distribute their music, the distributor usually will not help the artist with the promotional work. They usually have to promote themselves because the distributor is  known to not be very involved with the promotions to sell the music.

If the artist want to be able to distribute and sell their music at a nominal fee or for free not many places are known to them, but this website provides information and links to websites for distributing music to help these artists. Some examples are:

http://www.indiearth.com/
http://www.musicfellas.com/

These Websites allow for independent artists to find more ways to distribute their own music if they prefer to take care of it all.
